Curvy
Women may be Smarter Despite the fact that the media may be strewn with stick-like models, men find curvy, feminine bodies more attractive. New research also shows that curvy women may be smarter, too. The study, published in the journal of Evolution and Human Behavior in 2007, suggests that women with large hips and small waists are smarter than those with an "apple-shape" or the skinnier more linear-shaped women. Curvy women may also
have smarter offspring; the fat stored in the hips and thighs is high
in omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for a developing baby's brain.
This may be another reason why teenage mothers-- who haven't yet had time to store up sufficient fat on their developing bodies- have children that do worse in intelligence tests. The exception seems to be teenage mothers with an hourglass figure, whose children performed better. This may be another reason why men find an hourglass figure more appealing. The researchers collected data from 16,000 women and girls, including their body measurements and scores on intelligence tests. Women with lower waist-to-hip ratios did better on the tests- and so did their children. Body weight and fat has little to do with curviness; it is a measure of the circumference of the waist at the slimmest part divided by the circumference of the hips at the widest part. Other benefits of being curvy include resistance to disease and a longer life expectancy. Related
